Ice Vegas Invitational

A two-day college hockey showcase that put Division I teams on center ice on the Las Vegas Strip in 2018 and 2019.

The Ice Vegas Invitational brought top NCAA Division I college men's hockey to one of the most famous addresses in sports: the Las Vegas Strip. Held at T-Mobile Arena, the tournament gathered four teams over two days of fast, hard-hitting hockey. It ran for two editions, in January 2018 and January 2019, and helped show that college hockey could draw a crowd in a city that had just fallen in love with the game.

About the Tournament

The Ice Vegas Invitational was a four-team, mid-season college hockey event. Two days of games gave fans a chance to see programs from across the country face off far from their usual home rinks. The idea was simple: take the energy of the college game, place it on the Las Vegas Strip, and let a new hockey town see what NCAA Division I action looks like up close. The event was produced by a Las Vegas sports-events group in partnership with the arena's operator.

The Venue: T-Mobile Arena

Every game was played at T-Mobile Arena, the marquee venue on the Las Vegas Strip and the home of the city's NHL team. With its big-league ice, modern boards, and arena lighting, it gave college players a true main-stage experience. Fans got wide concourses, clear sightlines, and a building built for hockey just steps from the casinos and hotels of the Strip.

Editions

The tournament ran for two years. The 2018 edition launched the event, and the 2019 edition brought a fresh slate of teams back to the desert. See the cards below for the full field each year.

What Made It Special

Most college hockey is played in campus arenas in cold-weather towns. The Ice Vegas Invitational flipped that script: a neutral-site event in a warm-weather city, on a true NHL sheet, in the middle of the entertainment capital of the world. It mixed a holiday-week getaway with real competitive hockey, and it pointed to Las Vegas as a place that could host marquee national events down the road.
